Helping you put personal development books to action!
Do you:
- Want to find out what personal development books are really about?
- Already enjoy reading personal development books but want to know how to best understand some of these amazing life-changing concepts in these books?
- Want to be able to learn, share and develop within a fun and interactive workshop among a group of like-minded people who can nurture and support one another?
- Want to truly know how to actually REALLY apply these personal development concepts in your lives so you can start LIVING TODAY?
The vision for the Results4Life! Book Club is to enable you as participants to gain inspiration and knowledge from great inspirational and motivational books – and from each other – on how to create and sustain meaningful and positive changes in your lives, and in your world. The focus is on applying what you learn through an interactive workshop environment, rather than just discussing theory.
This Book Club gathers a diverse group of people dedicated to personal growth. It is my intention to provide a nexus of meaningful connections, both personal & professional, and an incubator of life development ideas.
So, if you’re a personal development reader, or would like to start acquiring some of these life skills, how can Results4Life! Book Club enhance your journey?
1. Get your nose out of your belly button
Personal development requires a lot of inward gazing. Sometimes we take it too far and turn the exploration into navel-gazing. By reaching out to others in this Book Club, we get out of our heads by turning our gaze outward, thus improving our chances of actually moving forward (because walking with our noses in our belly buttons just begs for a nasty accident to happen).
2. Connect to others on the same path
It’s easy to feel alone on our personal journeys. Everyone interprets personal development in different ways, sometimes conflicting with our way of thinking. When we connect to a myriad of other people on their own personal development journeys, we broaden our horizons and gain new perspectives.
3. Share your insights
Results4Life! Book Club allows everyone to have that immediate satisfaction of interacting with people after experiencing a mind-blowing moment of clarity. Others see the insights and share their own take on the newly gained wisdom or have their own mind-blowing moments. And so the epiphanies spread around the world.
4. Hear about new resources
Results4Life! Book Club provides the opportunity for others on similar life journeys to look to one another for resources that will help them. Generally, when people find something that works for them, they like to share the resource. If you’re networking with them, you’ll find out about the resource and maybe it will help you too.
5. Learn how to apply
One of the points of difference for Results4Life Book Club is that they are not only active discussion/study groups but workshops as well, which includes exercises that enable you to experience what these lessons are. You will then be empowered to design your own application for the week, and actually make things happen for yourself. In fact, you have the chance to evaluate your tools at the next session so others may learn how one another went with these strategies.
6. Find answers to direct questions
One of the things I like to share most about the Book Club is the direct help that I can offer as a Results Coach. It’s like a real-time customer support centre without any of the sales and marketing, and participants will have the opportunity to engage with my skills as I apply some of these personal development concepts within workshop exercises. Of course, this also allows you the opportunity to have external ongoing coaching with me, while using the Book Club as a spring board for new lessons in life.
How Does It Work?
- There are 10 books in the Results4Life Book Club for the year, covering 8 major topics.
- Each book is covered over 4 sessions (1 session per week) in a month. For example, if there are 8 chapters in the book, each session will therefore cover 2 chapters.
- Each session is 1½ hours long.
- You can choose to sign up per book, 2 books or 3. If you are keen to continue with the program, the price will drop considerably! That is certainly one of life’s rewards isn’t it? You take care of yourself, and the universe takes care of you!
- The Book Club takes a break in December and January, giving all of you time to spend with your kids (if any!) during the major school holidays and Christmas break.
- The Book List may also change for the new year so keep a look out for new and exciting books!
The Results4Life! Book Club sessions are driven both by the participants and the facilitator. The session includes:
- Review of the week and lessons learnt during the last workshop
- Discussion on new key points in the selected book
- Reflection on a selected few concepts and how they can work on your lives
- Exercises (between 2-3) that focuses on experiencing these concepts, and what it means to use them in your lives

There is a brief 15 minute refreshment break between Discussion and Exercises.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change by Stephen R. Covey
This book was a publishing phenomenon in the early 1990s, and it deserved to be. Stephen R. Covey managed to repackage an ethical and moral tradition thousands of years in development and make it meaningful to a late twentieth century, secular audience. Most of what you find in this book you will find in Aristotle, Cicero, Benedict, Tillotson and their heirs. Covey adds a few references to psychology, a twentieth century science, and many to Viktor Frankl, a sage of the Holocaust. Covey wraps the mix in a distinctively American can-do program of easy-looking steps calling, mostly, for self-discipline. The result is a quite worthwhile, useful manual for self-improvement. I believe most readers will learn something useful from this book, will find the style familiar and easy-going, and the prescriptions adaptable.
About the author
Dr Stephen R Covey was born in 1932, and achieved international acclaim, and is perhaps best known, for his self-help book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Since it was first published by Simon & Schuster in 1989, it has sold around 12 million copies word-wide.
Covey has a Harvard MBA and has spent most of his career at Brigham Young University, where he was professor of organisational behaviour and business management. In addition to his MBA, he also has a doctorate which he completed whilst at Brigham Young University. Dr. Stephen R Covey has received the Thomas More College Medallion for continuing service to humanity and has additionally been awarded four honorary doctorate degrees.
Stephen is also a co-founder of the Franklin-Covey organization, which specialises in the application of Covey’s principle-centred approach to leadership and management. He is widely acknowledged as one of the world’s leading authorities on the subject of time-management. Thousands of organizations across the world, including many of the Fortune 500 companies, have adopted his innovative techniques on leadership, teamwork, and customer-focused service. His best-selling book on time-management, First Things First, co-authored with A. Roger & Rebecca R. Merrill, according to Simon & Schuster is the best-selling time management book ever.
The seven principles he presents in the 7 Habits are not original thoughts – he does not claim to have originated the ideas but simply to have found a framework and a language for articulating the time-less principles embedded into the seven habits. In fact, it could be argued that the habits actually run counter to basic human nature. By our nature, we are reactive creatures and we are inclined to act mainly out of self-interest. But we are also as human beings capable of much higher thoughts and actions and by working hard to internalize the 7 habits we are able to develop a proactive attitude. By so doing, we can take charge of our own destinies and we are capable of exerting influence on other people for the collective good.

Awaken The Giant Within by Anthony Robbins
Author and “life coach” Anthony Robbins takes on the gargantuan task of analyzing how the mind and body work, and how you can take control of every part of the process. He explains that all human actions and decisions originate in the pain-versus-pleasure principle. He then teaches you how to rewire your neurology so you associate pain with negative emotions and events, and replace it with the pleasure of the positive.
Reading an Anthony Robbins book is like viewing a transcript of one of his self-empowerment seminars. The personal revelations, stories, anecdotes and analogies are fun to read, but the essential messages are buried beneath the pages. It is my intention to extract all the gems of wisdom from this lengthy treatise, and guide participants in this book club on a worthwhile pursuit for success in life.
About the author
Anthony Robbins is the “leader called upon by leaders.” As the recognized expert in the psychology of peak performance, he has spent more than a quarter of a century serving people from more than 80 nations around the world. He is an international bestselling author. His educational audio system, Personal Power, has sold more than 35 million tapes worldwide. His clients have included an extraordinary array of outstanding achievers, including presidents of the United States, members of two royal families, Olympic and professional athletes, and Fortune 500 CEOs, and he has addressed distinguished audiences ranging from Britain’s Parliament to the Harvard Business School.

Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
Five hundred years before the birth of Jesus, a God-realized being named Lao-tzu in ancient China dictated 81 verses, which are regarded by many as the ultimate commentary on the nature of our existence. The classic text of these 81 verses, called the Tao Te Ching or the Great Way, offers advice and guidance that is balanced, moral, spiritual, and always concerned with working for the good.
In this book, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer has reviewed hundreds of translations of the Tao Te Ching and has written 81 distinct essays on how to apply the ancient wisdom of Lao-tzu to today’s modern world. This work contains the entire 81 verses of the Tao, compiled from Wayne’s researching of 12 of the most well-respected translations of text that have survived for more than 25 centuries.
Each chapter is designed for actually living the Tao or the Great Way today. Some of the chapter titles are “Living with Flexibility,” “Living Without Enemies,” and “Living by Letting Go.” Each of the 81 brief chapters focuses on living the Tao and concludes with a section called “Doing the Tao Now.”
Wayne spent one entire year reading, researching, and meditating on Lao-Tzu’s messages, practicing them each day and ultimately writing down these essays as he felt Lao-Tzu wanted you to know them.
This is a work to be read slowly, one essay a day. As Wayne says, “This is a book that will forever change the way you look at your life, and the result will be that you’ll live in a new world aligned with nature. Writing this book changed me forever, too. I now live in accord with the natural world and feel the greatest sense of peace I’ve ever experienced. I’m so proud to present this interpretation of the Tao Te Ching, and offer the same opportunity for change that it has brought me.”

Wealth I (August 2011)
Think & Grow Rich: This Book Could be Worth a Million Dollars to You by Napoleon Hill
This is one of the best-selling self-help books of all time. Written during the Great Depression, against a backdrop of millions of people out of work and a looming world war, Napoleon Hill’s magnum opus held out hope that life could get better. While not considered part of the New Thought movement, Hill drew on many of their concepts and techniques. He prefigured the ‘Prosperity Consciousness’ of present-day New Age thinkers. And a host of motivational writers and speakers have followed in his footsteps.
A good part of Hill’s book is simply the gospel of 20th century American Capitalism: work hard, have a firm handshake, get ahead by doing quality work, treat your customers with respect, anybody can become rich and/or powerful if they overcome their personal weaknesses. Some may find the core ‘secret’ of this book elusive; Hill never gives us a succinct formula to acquiring wealth, although he hints that it exists. However, the title of the book is ‘Think and Grow Rich,’ not ‘Get Rich Quick’: Hill insists that we take a very detailed personal inventory, and grow spiritually, in order to draw wealth our way. This involves a developing a high level of self-discipline and obeying the Delphic injunction to ‘Know Thyself’. He also incorporates a lot of good, practical business advice: find new opportunities created by technological innovations, make a written plan and keep to it, don’t be afraid to fail repeatedly. The secret is here, it is just simply the sum of parts rather than an explicit roadmap.
Towards the end of the book he steps off a precipice and ventures into some very esoteric territory. He discusses harnessing Kundalini energy, manifesting psychic powers such as telepathy, tapping into higher consciousness, and getting in touch with the great minds of history, although, again, he is not too specific about how to accomplish these feats.
Think and Grow Rich is one of those books which makes a lasting impression. No matter what you may think of Hill’s philosophy and his folksy writing style, you are bound to come away from this book feeling energized, more optimistic about life, and (possibly) a bit richer for the experience.
About the Author
Napoleon Hill is considered to have influenced more people into success than any other person in history. Born in a one-room cabin, he began his career as a journalist. His big break came when he was asked to interview steel-magnate Andrew Carnegie, who was so impressed with the young reporter that he convinced Hill to research and organize the world’s first philosophy of individual achievement. The project took 20 years to complete. Hill wrote several best-selling books on the subject. Napoleon Hill’s “Think And Grow Rich” is one of Nightingale-Conant’s best-selling programs of all time.

Relationships (October 2011)
How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
How to Win Friends and Influence People is the first, and still the finest, book of its kind. One of the best-known motivational books in history, Dale Carnegie’s groundbreaking work has sold millions of copies, has been translated into almost every known written language, and has helped countless people succeed in both their business and personal lives.
First published in 1937, Carnegie’s advice has remained relevant for generations because he addresses timeless questions about the fine art of getting along with people: How can you make people like you instantly? How can you persuade people to agree with you? How can you speak frankly to people without giving offense? The ability to read others and successfully navigate any social situation is critically important to those who want to get a job, keep a job, or simply expand their social network.
The core principles of this book, originally written as a practical, working handbook on human relations, are proven effective. Carnegie explains the fundamentals of handling people with a positive approach; how to make people like you and want to help you; how to win people to your way of thinking without conflict; and how to be the kind of leader who inspires quality work, increased productivity, and high morale.
As Carnegie explains, the majority of our success in life depends on our ability to communicate and manage personal relationships effectively, whether at home or at work. How to Win Friends and Influence People will help you discover and develop the people skills you need to live well and prosper.
About the Author
Perhaps more than any other person who ever lived, Dale Carnegie changed the human relations movement. His world-famous course has now influenced millions of people. Looking back on his life, Carnegie saw that worry and fear were the forces that held him back. Conquering worry and fear gave him a new hold on life.
He developed the Dale Carnegie Course as a forum for overcoming worry and fear and developing human relations and leadership skills. Now you can benefit from the insight on leadership that nine decades and millions of students have brought to Dale Carnegie Training.

Transformation: The Mindset You Need. The Body You Want. The Life You Deserve by Bill Phillips
Mention the name Bill Phillips to any of the million people from all walks of life who are now transformed as a result of the energy, inspiration, and knowledge shared in his #1 New York Times bestseller, Body for Life, and watch their faces light up with appreciation and pride!
Within these pages, Phillips delivers on the title’s promise. In a unique fusion of art, science, common sense, and the wisdom of the life experience itself, Transformation illuminates the right way to making significant, meaningful, and healthy changes. Specifically, Phillips guides readers step-by-step through his 11 Transformation Tenets, which, when practiced daily, “energizes authentic and lasting change, beginning deep within your heart and then radiating out into every aspect of your life, and are reflected in everything you see, do, feel and experience. Truly . . . the Transformation is the way to change everything . . . beginning within your Self, but only beginning there.”
What I find most rewarding about this book is that it presents a holistic program for healing your mind from unhealthy things like grief, trauma, repressed anger, anxiety, fear, and depression. Phillips believes that a healthy mind and healthy thinking are the way to lose weight and get fit for the long term. And he presents a lot of solid science to back up his theory.
Phillips delivers this information much more like a compassionate therapist than a personal trainer. The bottom line message of this new book is: If you want a healthy body, do the work to have a healthy mind (and emotions). That is the promise of mind-body medicine.
About the Author
Bill Phillips was raised in Golden, Colorado. He started bodybuilding in 1982, then moved to Gold’s Gym Venice beach (known as the Mecca of bodybuilding) in 1983, remaining until 1986, a period during which Phillips admits to steroid use. However, he quickly learned the error of his ways and at 21 moved back to Colorado and began his publishing career.
New York Times bestselling author, magazine publisher, documentary filmmaker, entrepreneur, inventor, self-made multimillionaire, motivator, Bill Phillips has thus far proved unstoppable. Now, he has his sights set on scaling what he calls the “Mt. Everest of health and energy goals: Transform America from worst to first—to make it the healthiest nation in the world within 10 years.” Described recently by Outside magazine as “the most successful fitness author of all time,” Phillips’ runaway bestseller Body for LIFE has sold in excess of 4 million copies. The 12-week guide to achieving mental and physical strength has topped the charts in 11 different countries—including the U.S., England, Japan, Australia, Greece and Finland—and was, in 2004, named among the Top 15 bestselling books of the past decade by USA Today.
Over the years, Phillips has served as a “Personal Transformer” to a who’s who list of Hollywood icons and world champion athletes, including Jerry Seinfeld, Sylvester Stallone, Demi Moore and John Elway. But what he is most proud of is helping hundreds of thousands of “ordinary” men and women transform into extraordinary and inspiring examples for others to look up to and follow. People who have made a change in their lives and are now making a difference in the lives of others. On June 21, 2010, Phillips latest book, “Transformation: The Mindset You Need. The Body You Want. The Life You Deserve” was released.
