Mentoring
Mentoring is a powerful personal development and empowerment tool. It is an effective way of helping clients progress in their personal, professional or academic goals and is becoming increasing popular as its potential is realised. It is a partnership between two people normally working in a similar field or sharing similar experiences. It is a helpful relationship based upon mutual trust and respect.
As a mentor, I act as a guide who can help the clients/ mentee find the right direction and who can help them develop solutions to issues we have experienced in life. I rely upon having had similar experiences to gain an empathy with the client and an understanding of their issues. Mentoring provides the client with an opportunity to think about life options and progress.

Coaching
Coaching is a client-centred interactive, future-focused, non directive process where the coach guides and facilitates your progress towards defined goals.
A coach helps their client identify what they want to achieve. Once identified, the coach supports their client throughout their quest to achieve their goals, helping to keep the client focused and on track and to overcome any challenges and obstacles on the way to their goal.
Coaching is not therapy or counseling for psychological illnesses. If you believe you need those services, seek those professionals to help. Coaching is about helping you to achieve your personal goals, from financial goals to relationship goals.
The method of coaching I employ uses a combination of coaching best practices, Neuro Linguistic Programming and hypnotherapy. I trained with the Christopher Howard training programs and I’m certified as a Master Practitioner of NLP, Master Results coach, Performance Consultant and in the following techniques of Master Hypnosis and Advanced Neurological Repatterning™.

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)
NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. Neuro means brain, linguistic means speech or communication, and programming is a deliberate process of organising information to get the results you want.
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is the study of human excellence. It was created in the 1970s by Richard Bandler and John Grindler. They wanted to understand how people produced excellence, so they studied a number of people who excelled in their field. Those they studied included: hypnotherapist Milton Eriksson MD, family therapist Virginia Satir and gestalt therapist Fritz Perls.
Once Bandler and Grindler discovered how these people produced excellence they created a number of models, which others could use to replicate the excellent behaviour in themselves and others.
NLP has developed into a set of tools and techniques, which shows you how to run your mind and to create effective change in your thoughts, beliefs, behaviours and state. But it’s more than just a set of tools and techniques it is also an attitude and a methodology. NLP is about curiosity, a willingness to experiment and the use of modelling, experimentation and processes.
Ultimately NLP allows you to achieve excellent results in both your personal and professional life. You can think of NLP as a way of programming your brain to communicate information both to yourself and others in order to achieve your desired goals by changing human behavior. We learn our behaviour from our experiences and the people around us as we grow up, and this programs our brain to perceive things and to react to the world in a certain way.
NLP allows you to understand what these programs are, and then reprogram them. Because our behaviour is learnt, we are able to unlearn it! NLP is concerned with ‘how’ we do something, and not the ‘why’ (that’s for psychoanalysis).
Many of us know how to program the machines around us to get the results we need, such as using the GPS in our car to navigate our way or programming the recording devices on our TV to enjoy our favourite shows. However, few of us understand how to make deliberate choices in what we say to ourselves and to others in order to get the success and enjoyment we want from our lives.
Your brain stores all its experiences as pictures, sounds and feelings, if you change how your brain recognizes these experiences, you can change how you respond to them. Your brain doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what happens in your head. Your imagination is always more powerful than your will power. Everyone has their own view of the world.

Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis to effectively and rapidly aid changes in the unconscious mind – which controls our behaviours, feelings, and habits. It allows you to work with the part of the brain that makes the real decisions – your unconscious mind!
Hypnosis is simply the deliberate use of the imagination, paralleled with strong focus and relaxation, done well, it can work in the same way as when you are dreaming. So when you go into hypnosis, you simply get very involved with an inner reality, it’s just like when you read a good book. Hypnosis is an entirely natural state lying somewhere in between day dreaming and the initial stages of sleep.
It is very important to dispel the myth that hypnosis ‘disempowers’ you. You will not do anything you do not want to do, as you retain the resources to be alert. Of course your session is also monitored. You are fully aware of all sounds and what is happening around you, you just feel deeply relaxed, calm and enjoy a pleasant almost dreamlike experience. You remain fully in control and cannot be made to do or think anything you do not agree with! (All those people you may have seen on a stage show, actually want to do those things, they just don’t normally!)
The great thing about hypnosis is that the therapist can communicate directly with the subject’s unconscious mind. This is a far more powerful part of the mind where emotions and intuition come from. So, hypnosis is a safe way to access natural intelligence. Issuing new instructions to create real change in the way you feel and behave. There are no real limits to what you can achieve – the only limit is your desire to change and your ability to identify the changes that you want to make.
Literally anything where there is an unconscious element to the feeling or behaviour. Common areas are – smoking cessation, weight release, confidence, phobias, depression, anxiety, pain control, emotional release, and stress.

How do Mentoring, Coaching and NLP work together?
People often want to change and attain their goals, but they get stuck in old beliefs or habits. In the process of being mentored and coached, student clients will find that they need a breakthrough technique or tool to help them get unstuck. I will help clients identify and overcome the obstacles that are standing in the way of their dream path. One of the best ways I can accomplish this is by using NLP processes to empower his student clients. I practise NLP-based mentoring and coaching in order to focus on identifying those often unacknowledged, unconscious beliefs that are sabotaging or holding the client back from their goals. Through NLP, we can give clients the powerful tools to reprogram these beliefs and create their pathway to success.
